Typically for New Years I work on a non work related illustration. This year I took a small doodle of the head of this creature and painted until I had a scene. Nothing was planned... shapes just emerged and we had this pearly lil beauty somewhere under all the grime waiting for us. Fairly pleased with it.
Would have liked to finish it considerably sooner, but alas work has been quite the time suck.
I see in a lot of your work the way in which you apply brush strokes is rounded using the right hand. Is this purposeful or a characteristic that has formed naturally?
Rounded using the right hand is a little hard for me to follow, can you elaborate? My interpretation is the visual flow and how I do tend to cram things to the ride side a bit? Do correct me if I'm wrong
If so - It's a bit of a mix. I do look at other options and routinely flip my images to see what works best. Often I find myself in this sweeping curve based on Western story telling. I like the read of Left to Right, even in images. We get so used to it in our culture that it works surprisingly well in illustration.... is it needed? Not really, I've grown enough as an illustrator that I can put the eye pretty much where I need it now and move the person around as needed... and yet I keep coming back to it.
That said, in recent pieces in progress now I've varied away from it a little bit for a bit of growth. Will I get far? Who knows.... I kinda like it.
That's exactly what I meant. I think you have the right mentality towards creating art and growing as an artist.
I like your work and added you to my watch list. "Will you get far?" Yeah, who knows. Life happens. I think if you haven't already be active in looking for full-time work as an artist. Enter any comic book or anime store and you'll see all sorts of potential places to apply for work... art for book covers, concept art for video games, and designs for a card game like Magic TG. The possibilities are endless.
Great work.

Thank you for your kind words
